Students of HIBMAT University Institute of Buea (HUIB) have commenced the 2025/2026 academic year with a solemn Holy Mass, marking the official start of activities for the new academic season. The celebration took place on October 29, 2025, at Campus B of the University in Buea.
The Eucharistic celebration, which is a long-standing academic tradition at HUIB, was presided over by Rev. Fr. Solomon Lyonga, the University Chaplain. The Mass brought together students, teaching, and administrative staff, who gathered in thanksgiving and prayer for a successful academic year.
In his homily, Fr. Lyonga urged the students to put God first in all their endeavors, assuring them that success will naturally follow when they trust in divine guidance. He reminded them that academic excellence and moral uprightness go hand in hand in shaping future professionals who will impact society positively.
Following the Mass, students participated in a general orientation session, where they were briefed on university procedures, introduced to various administrative and student service offices, and guided on how to make the most of their time on campus.
In his welcome address, the President and CEO of HIBMAT University Institute of Buea, Dr. Jude Chilaka, warmly welcomed the freshmen and women to what he described as a “prestigious citadel of excellence.” He encouraged them to keep the candle of excellence burning brightly, remain focused on their studies, and avoid distractions that could derail their academic ambitions.
Dr. Chilaka reassured the students of the University’s unwavering commitment to support them in achieving their educational and professional goals. “HUIB has always been a leader in academic excellence,” he noted, emphasizing that the institution is built on professionalism, discipline, and hands-on training.
He also called on the teaching and administrative staff to continue giving their best to help the new students settle into university life and maintain the high standards for which HUIB is known.
The ceremony set a tone of faith, discipline, and excellence as HIBMAT University Institute of Buea embarks on another academic year dedicated to nurturing professionals who will contribute meaningfully to national development.
