NURSING

Overview

Nurses are always at the front line of health care. They combine the principles of health sciences with the art of caring to ensure patient comfort and recovery. Apart from providing bedside care, nurses also serve as patient advocates, health educators, and coordinators of different health care services. Their expertise enables them to work in various settings, including adult facilities, prisons, offices, private clinics, and even military bases.

They are also in demand—employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 16% from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. An HND, BSc, or MSc degree from HUIB is the start of a great career in Nursing.

At HUIB, our aim is to train highly qualified nurses capable of providing holistic high-quality nursing care in diverse clinical situations locally, nationally, and internationally.

MIDWIFERY

Overview

Midwifery is one of four formally-recognized advanced practice nursing roles. Like many career paths in the healthcare industry, midwives are in high demand and have been for many years. Midwives deliver, or assist in the delivery of babies, provide antenatal and postnatal care and advise parents on baby care. They work with other healthcare professionals, and advise on and teach midwifery practice.

At HUIB, we prepare you for a midwifery practice focused on providing family-centered, comprehensive care to essentially healthy women and their families. We believe that the autonomous practice of midwives is based on the health promotion model and interdependent practice—a system that emphasizes the unique aspects each health professional brings to the care of a client.

To develop well-rounded midwives, HUIB’s HND and BSc programs in Midwifery offer courses ranging from advanced physiology and pathophysiology to the use of ultrasonography during pregnancy. You’ll become a highly competent clinician, and your clinical work can be completed in hospitals, birthing centers, and in-home birth experiences.
