The release of the 2023 HND (Higher National Diploma) results has once again proven beyond reasonable doubt that HIBMAT University Institute of Buea (HUIB) is the best Computer Engineering and professional school in Cameroon.
In the recently published HND results, the 10 best Computer Science and Networks candidates in the whole of Cameroon came from HUIB. Notably, the lone and first-ever distinction in that department since the creation of HND in Cameroon was achieved by Bebnji Joyceline Njong from HUIB.

This department has been noted for consistently producing the best students nationwide, and it is manned by qualified and experienced lecturers who are dedicated to ensuring students’ success. Notably, the Best candidate in 2022, Mbella Brenda Namondo, was also a product of HUIB.
Apart from the Computer Science and Networks department, students from other departments also excelled this year:
- The Best Tourism and Travel Agency Management Candidate nationwide was produced by HUIB’s sister branch in Douala, represented by Bie Nathalie Mukete with an Upper Credit. The same Hospitality department of HUIB will soon be represented in Kenya by Tabi Schneider, who was selected as one of the candidates from Cameroon at the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration.
- The Best Civil Engineering Candidate nationwide in the same exam came from HUIB – Bani Remi Berinyuy with an Upper Credit.
- The Banking and Finance Department also registered outstanding results, producing the Best Candidate Nationwide – Nde Clinton Tayong (Upper Credit).
- Another success story is the 3rd Best Candidate Nationwide from the Accounting Department of HUIB, named Ruben Besong Agbor.
Overall, HIBMAT University Institute of Buea and HIBMAT Douala are among the best professional institutions in Cameroon, achieving excellent results at the 2023 HND Examinations with many distinctions and upper credits. HUIB scored 97.56%, while the Douala branch scored 97%.
The question that comes to mind is: How is HUIB able to consistently produce such outstanding results across the national territory?
It’s no surprise that HUIB was ranked the second-best last year (2022) by the Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon after the HND results were published. Several factors account for this consistent success:

About the Higher National Diploma-HND
The Higher National Diploma (HND) is a two-year professional University program that originated in the United Kingdom and has since been adopted by all Commonwealth nations. It was introduced in Cameroon in 2002 by Ministerial Order No. 02/0069/MINESUP/DDES.
The HND focuses on learning by doing and is designed to teach the knowledge and skills needed for employment, paving the way for a Bachelor’s Degree Program. The HND Curriculum Structure comprises four main components: General studies courses, Foundation courses, Professional courses, and a Supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme.
The Higher National Diploma (HND) in Cameroon is earned through a national examination organized each academic year in one session by the Ministry of Higher Education through the National Committee for the Organization of Higher National Diploma (HND) Examinations. The examination is open only to those who have completed the program coursework and research projects and have passed the prescribed examinations in an institution of Higher Learning approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.

The Grades for Higher National Diploma (HND) are classified as follows:
- Distinction GPA of 3.50 and above / Average of 15-20 (85-100 %)
- Upper Credit GPA of 3.00 – 3.49 / Average of 14-14.9 (70-74 %)
- Lower Credit GPA of 2.50 – 2.99 / Average of 12-13.9 (60-69 %)
- Pass (P) GPA of 2.00 – 2.49 / Average of 10-11.9 (50-54 %)
- Below 10 (Below 50 %) Fail
